Relative pressure method

(aka absolute pressure or pressure difference method)

Test medium: Pressurized air or nitrogen resp. vacuum
Detectable leakage rates: Depending on volume and pressure >1 cc/min

Testing method:
Test specimen is pressurized/evacuated. Pressure change in the test piece caused by leakages is measured and evaluated.

Relativdruckverfahren

Advantages:

  • simple and cost-efficient method
  • automated testing procedure possible
  • evaluation not operator-dependent

Drawbacks:

  • measuring resolution dependent on test pressure
  • thermal and elastic changes on the test specimen influence the measurement result
  • usually not suitable for leakage rates <1 cc/min
